FLOWN United States Flag. An approximately 5.5
Description
FLOWN United States Flag. An approximately 5.5x8 inch U. S. flag from the "Faith 7" mission. The flag still has the tri-fold creases from being carried in Gordon Cooper's space suit leg pocket.
flown flags from any mercury mission are extremely rare.
Little though was given to carrying mementos on any of the Mercury flights. Due to the long duration flight planned for "Faith 7," capsule weight was critical. Consumables such as fuel and oxygen took precedence over other material. Cooper was able to carry only a very limited number of flags. Inscribed and signed on the lowest white bar, "This flag was flown on Faith 7, May 15-16, 1963, Gordon Cooper."
All items are offered for sale subject to Swann Galleries' standard terms and conditions of sale, which are published in our catalogues and are posted below.
