Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961) Author. Hemingway is one of the most famous American writers of the 20th century. His short novel The Old Man and the Sea won the Pulitzer Prize in 1953, and Hemingway was given the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. His book, The Old Man and the Sea, Charles Scribner's Sons, 1952, first edition, first printing (publishers "A" on the copyright page). Some wear at the edges of the spine and at the corners, the dust jacket has two small holes in the spine and shows modest wear at the edges. The book which is contained in a blue linen slip case is not signed. Together with a 5" x 3" matted (exposed) postcard, signed "To Carolyn Singmaster with best wishes Ernest Hemingway." The post card and book are housed in a 24 ¾" x 20 ½" custom-made walnut, hinged shadow box which also has a printed copy of the Karsh portrait of Hemingway.
