Fine sterling silver sugar castor from J. Pierpont Morgan's private steam yacht Corsair. The hallmark design dates this piece to the 1890's, the time that corsair was the Flagship of the New York Yacht Club. It was also used on Corsair III and Corsair IV as it's provenance suggests. This piece comes from a descendent of the chief steward onboard Corsair III and Corsair IV. The castor is adorned with a cloisonne Morgan house flag with the crescent moon and star waving from a flagstaff. The silver has a finial with flame detail, draping at it's waist and near it's threaded and pierced cap. Hallmarked on the bottom, "Tiffany & Co. 8340 Makers 7081 925-1000 and a "T" below all script. Condition: highly polished. Very good condition. Height 5 3/4" tall x 2 1/2" diameter.
