The French shipping company Les Chargeurs Reunis launched their ship L'Atlantique in 1931. As part of their promotion, they had Cassandre design a poster. The image was so popular and beguiling that the company used it on all sorts of collateral material: timetables, postcards and, here, on calendars. These ephemeral items were even less likely to be kept than the posters themselves, so surviving copies are particularly rare.
