Colonial Lottery
Uncut Pair of 1781 Revolutionary War Lottery Tickets
1781, “Simsbury Bridge Lottery” (Connecticut), Uncut Pair of Tickets, Extremely Fine.
4” x 4”, Uncut original pair of lottery tickets No. 1417 & 1418. This lottery was run to help with the financing of improvements such as bridges and roads, which was difficult during the Revolutionary War, so lotteries were sometimes used to raise badly needed money (just as today!). Light toning but otherwise in nice condition. Signed by “Noah Phelps". Bold with huge top and right side margin selvage. Scarce, especially as an uncut pair.
