Description
US Civil War Cavalry Trooper's Sword, Model 1840, maker's mark "PDL" in oval cartouche on blade near handle, for Peter D. Luneschloss. Blade made of Solingen Steel, brass hand guard and leather-covered ribbed grip and grip wire. Good condition with oxidation to blade and scabbard, wear to grip. Iron scabbard with two rings. Total Length 43 1/4". Blade length 37 1/2". Private Atlanta, GA collection. 19th century. Note: The Luneschloss Company operated Solingen, Germany and also partnered with Tiffany & Co. to make swords during the Civil War.
