Description
Philippe Henri Noyer original 1954 oil on canvas of young nude girl, from the Beverly Hills home of Groucho Marx. Philippe Henri Noyer (b. 1917, Lyon, France) began to establish a niche in the Paris art scene of the late 1940's, but was catapulted to a lasting importance in the international art world when a gallery dealer lost possession of 20 of Noyer's uniquely stylized paintings to gambling debts, forced to sell at cost to Robert Goldstein, then president of 20th Century-Fox, who distributed them among his Hollywood friends and associates. Noyer then became in high demand for commission portraits and for his own choice of subjects, often waifish girls or boys, or fantasy animals, by the seaside or out in nature. This oil on canvas of a nude adolescent girl is dated by Noyer 8-2-54, and became the prized property of Groucho Marx, whose home it graced for decades.
