first edition, with tipped-in title-page, third issue, in a first state dust jacket with Brewer/Warren/Putnam on spine panel. inscribed and signed "For Guy B. Reedy, from John Steinbeck, 1935" in pen on front pastedown. Reedy and Steinbeck became friends while working together as runners on the construction site of the old Madison Square Garden in New York City which is alluded to in the dust jacket blurb. The two remained friends for many decades and Steinbeck would inscribe all his first editions for Reedy, most of which were sold in our auction rooms in 1998.
