Description
Early-mid 17th century AD. A cast bronze pipe tamper comprising an expanding column attached to a bifacial elliptical panel, bearing portraits within ropework borders: on one side, King Charles I in classical garb with a laurel wreath crown, and on the other a female in fashionable attire, probably Princess Henrietta Maria whom he married in 1625. See Read, B. Metal Artefacts of Antiquity. Copper-alloy, 11.0 grams, 54 mm. Found Stroud Gloucestershire, England in 2010.

Very fine condition, cleaned and conserved.
