32. CHARLES H. PARKHURST (1842-1933). American clergyman and political reformer known for his ardent opposition to Tammany Hall. Collection of three letters. ALS, 2pp, small 8vo, [New York], Nov 10, 1884. To H. Olmsted graciously declining an invitation by the New York Jewelers Association. Also an ALS, 1p, 4to, n.p., Oct 8, 1917. To Perritan Maxwell, Editor of the National War Record and Review, sending his compliments on an article, observing that a "great many of our Americans, who are well-intentioned enough, have nevertheless so gotten out of the habit of thinking..." Lastly is a TLS with stamped signature, 1p, 4to, NY, Mar 1, 1893. As president of the Society for the Prevention of Crime, Parkhurst asks Hiram Hitchcock to serve on a statistical committee.
