44th Bombardment Group ("Flying Eight Balls"), Eighth Air Force jacket patch from the jacket of then Colonel Leon W. Johnson, Commanding Officer of the 44th. 5" diameter patch of black, red, yellow, blue, and white wool. c. 1942-45.

This jacket patch was worn by Leon Johnson on operations over Europe and Germany. The "eight ball" patch is accompanied by a letter of provenance signed by Major General Hoyt S. Vandenberg, Jr. Patch with evidence of moths and very light soiling, else this truly symbolic historical memento in very good condition.
