580. SIR WILLIAM CROOKES (1832-1919). British chemist and physicist who discovered thallium (1861) invented the radiometer and studied cathode rays. ALS, 2pp, 3¾"x6", London, Feb 24, 1874. Interesting content. On imprinted "20, Mornington Road" address stationery. In part, "...I much regret that I am unable to accept your kind invitation for Thursday but I have a prior engagement to try some electrical experiments at a séance with Miss Cook...It will be a disappointment for me to miss seeing the Baron du Potet, for I have studied the subject on which he has written so much - magic - and am indeed a pupil of Eliphas Leni whom I have no doubt he knows..."
