582. JAMES DEWAR (1842-1923). Scottish chemist and physicist best known for his work with low-temperature phenomena and was the first person to produce hydrogen in liquid form. He invented the Dewar flask, the first vacuum, or thermos, bottle. With British chemist Sir Frederick Abel, he invented cordite, a smokeless gunpowder. ALS, 1p, 12mo, Jul 15, [1913?]. On embossed Royal Institution of Great Britain stationery, Dewar sends his regrets that he has already given away a memento which his correspondent requests. Boldly penned and signed. Light dampstain and moderate soiling at bottom right portion of recto touching but not obscuring signature; normal toning; else VG. Est: $150-250
