'THE PATH OF GLORY LEADS BUT TO THE GRAVE'

583. THOMAS A. EDISON (1847-1931). American inventor and entrepreneur, patenting over 1000 inventions during his lifetime, playing a critical role in introducing the modern age of electricity. AQS on 5½"x3¼" album page, trimmed. The inventor elegantly pens a verse from "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard" by English poet Thomas Gray (1716-1771). In full, "The boast of heraldry of pomp and power / All that beauty all that wealth ere gave / Alike await the inevitable hour / The path of glory leads but to the grave." Boldly penned and signed in black ink. Accompanied by unsigned full-length standing portrait. Fine example. Est: $3000-4000
