American inventor and entrepreneur, patenting over 1000 inventions during his lifetime, playing a critical role in introducing the modern age of electricity. AQS on 5½"x3¼" album page, trimmed. The inventor elegantly pens a verse from "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard" by English poet Thomas Gray (1716-1771). In full, "The boast of heraldry of pomp and power / All that beauty all that wealth ere gave / Alike await the inevitable hour / The path of glory leads but to the grave."
