His Principles of Geology (1830-1833) that developed the theory of uniformitarianism, opposed the catastrophic theory of geologic change. His work influenced Charles Darwin. ANS in third person, 1p, 12mo, London, Apr 26 [n.y.] On imprinted "73. Harley St." address stationery, he writes in part, "Sir Charles Lyell presents his compts. to Mr. Hill and begs to send his sincere thanks" for a gift. Boldly penned and signed. Fine. Est: $150-250
