598. WILLIAM E. PARRY (1790-1855). British Arctic explorer who made unsuccessful attempts to find the Northwest Passage and to reach the North Pole, but succeeded in mapping much uncharted territory; rear admiral (1852). ALS, 2pp, 12mo, Hull, Nov 22, 1841. To a "dear Friend" in Liverpool where he is expecting to arrive in the next day or so, "and I am unwilling to be there without seeing you, tho' I am almost more than occupied, being engaged in a mission from Government relative to the Caledonian Canal..." Parry asks if it would be convenient to have dinner and if he might stay the night. "Let me know also, if you please, where your father's Counting House in Liverpool is, that I may communicate with him affairs if necessary..." Boldly penned and signed.
