"A DEFINING MOMENT IN HUMAN EVOLUTION"600. BUZZ ALDRIN (b. 1930). Astronaut, space-walker and as member of Apollo 11 lunar mission, became the second man to set foot on the moon. DS, 1p, 4to, n.p., n.d. On stationery bearing Apollo 11 logo, Aldrin attests that the affixed segment of gold "Kapton" foil was "attached to the outside skin of the Columbia" and played "a critical role by reflecting the sun's intense heat off the ship..." Aldrin describes the flight and the purpose of the foil and its preservation. He concludes, "The voyage of Apollo 11 was a defining moment in human evolution, when mankind lifted itself from its Earthly cradle, and began its long journey into the universe..."
