739. WILLIAM MORRIS HUNT (1824-1879). American portrait painter who introduced the Barbizon School practice of open-air painting to America. ALS "W. M. Hunt," 1p, 12mo, Milton, MA Jul 22, [after 1855]. To Mr. Doll, in full, "I want you to try the Governors portrait on an Easel in the other end of the room or a corner of the other end - as the light does not seem satisfactory & oblige Yours truly..." Boldly penned and signed in brown ink. Tipped to paper mount. Accompanied by very nice portrait engraving of the artist in later years. Hunt's works are now displayed in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Est: $450-500
