770. KATHERINE DUNHAM (b. 1910). American choreographer, dancer and scholar. Her Dunham School of Dance, which trained dancers in classical ballet, African and Caribbean dance forms, anthropology, and other cultural arts, opened in 1945 in New York City. TLS, 1p, 8vo, New York, Nov 29, 1955. On her personal letterhead to an admirer, thank her for gift of potholders. "They are the most beautiful...that I have ever seen...I am sending you a picture of myself with my little girl Marie Christine who is eight years old. She is on her way back to Switzerland where she goes to school and where she does her lessons in French and German although she speaks English pretty well..." Boldly signed. Accompanied by referenced 8"x10" b/w candid portrait of Dunham and her daughter, nicely inscribed and signed, adding date. Photograph is notched at left edge where removed from binder; else VG/Fine.
