GENE FOWLER
Description
794. GENE FOWLER (1890-1960). American journalist and biographer of his close friend John Barrymore, Good Night Sweet Prince. ALS "Gene," 2pp, 7¼"x10½", Los Angeles, [ca. 1949]. Amusing content to John Erskine who had just published Venus the Lonely Goddess. In part, "The splendid 'Venus' rose from the sea (of U.S. mail, that is) and began on Page One to charm old Fowler, the grizzled ex-practitioner of the amorous arts. It does seem but yesterday...that 'Helen of Troy' introduced me to the most sprightly, albeit cunning and lettered author of the age. That author has lost none of his vigorous bounce, and why should he? Congratulations...Will be in New York in about two weeks...And will you be my luncheon guest at one of the cultural centers, such as Toots Shor's...Again, warmest congratulations..." More good content. Boldly penned and signed. Est: $100-150
