ERLE STANLEY GARDNER
Description
GARDNER DISCUSSES PAUL PRY STORIES WITH EDITOR795. ERLE STANLEY GARDNER (1889-1970). This creator of "Perry Mason" was also a practicing lawyer who in 1948 founded the Court of Last Resort to aid persons unjustly imprisoned. TLS "Erle," 1p, 7¼"x10½", Temecula, CA, Aug 2, 1938. Excellent content. On his personal letterhead to Kenneth White, editor of Dime Detective. In part, "Naturally, I'm sorry you didn't like 'Good As Gold', but was mighty glad to get your detailed letter...telling me why you didn't like it and what you want in the Paul Pry stories. It's a little difficult figuring things out when we're so far apart, and I wish I'd talked things over with you in a little more detail when I was in New York - however, I think your letter gives me enough to work on, and I'll get at another yarn just as soon as I can squeeze the time in, because it's hard to build up reader interest in a character when there's too much of a gap between the first few stories..." Boldly signed. Fine. Est: $250-350
