1055. PRIMO CARNERA (1906-1967). Italian-born American boxer who defeated Jack Sharkey for heavyweight championship in 1933 and lost it to Max Baer in 1934. In 1937, in a bout with boxer Eddie Scharf, Carnera hit Scharf so hard that Scharf died from the injuries. Early b/w British postcard photograph, c. 1932, 15 months before winning World Heavyweight Championship. Boldly signed across his image. Captioned "Primo Carnera / Famous Boxers Series." Boxing stats neatly penciled on verso. Minor toning; light stain at bottom border; minor bumps at left border; else VG/Fine example. The former circus strongman, noted for his great size and strength, became a professional wrestler in 1946. The 1956 film The Harder They Fall was loosely based on his life. Extremely rare.
