22". Marks: A. Marque (incised signature) 12 (inscribed number on head). Bisque socket head with most artistic sculpting achieved by a unique four-part mold used exclusively for this doll, prominent facial definition, softly-rounded nose, heart-shaped face with slender throat, blue paperweight eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted dark curly lashes, feathered brows, closed mouth with uniquely-shaped lips, well-modeled pierced ears, original soft brown human hair hand-tied wig, original modeled body with slender torso, wide hips, undefined waist, composition upper arms, bisque lower arms with bisque attached-ball-joints at the elbows, separately sculpted fingers, wide upper thighs, slender lower legs with shapely calves, elongated narrow feet. Circa 1914, France. Commissioned from and sculpted by highly-esteemed French sculptor, Albert Marque. It is believed that only about 100 models of the Marque doll were created, most bearing their particular number in the series, this being #12; costume (excepting slip and panty) thought to be an original created for the A. Marque by Parisian art patron, Margaine-Lacroix. in her fashion studio; brown leather French shoes marked "10 Depose Marque". Commentary: An early number 12 model of A. Marque having superb sculpting and quality of bisque, highly defined and beautiful facial painting; excellent original uniquely-modelled body created only for the Marque.
