George Saxton, the brother-in-law of President William McKinley and the only son of one of Canton's most prominent families, was found murdered in 1898. The sensational crime became known as ""The Canton Tragedy,"" and while his jilted lover Annie George was accused and tried for murder, she was ultimately acquitted.
