[ALBAUGH, Thurlow K. (d. 1937)]. Canton's Great Tragedy. The Murder of George D. Saxton Together with a History of the Arrest and Trial of Annie E. George, Charged with the Murder… by ""Coe."" Wooster: Clapper Printing Co., 1899. 8vo. Photographic frontispiece and 12 plates (some occasional minor marginal spotting). (Some marginal browning.) Original green cloth, gilt-lettered on front cover and spine (some rubbing, spine slightly cocked). FIRST EDITION. George Saxton, the brother-in-law of President William McKinley and the only son of one of Canton's most prominent families, was found murdered in 1898. The sensational crime became known as ""The Canton Tragedy,"" and while his jilted lover Annie George was accused and tried for murder, she was ultimately acquitted.
