A Suit of Black Lacquer Samurai Armour (Tosei Gusoku), Momoyama (1573-1615) to Edo Period (1615-1868)
Kabuto (helmet): Zunari (head-shaped), Hineno shikoro (close-fitting plated neck guard), appears to be Momoyama period, good but simple manufacture, likely re-lacquered in Edo period
Maedate (frontal decoration): pliers for sword-making, lacquered wood (reproduction)
Menpo (facial armour): Hanpo style, thick lacquered iron, mid Edo period, circa 1750
Dou (breastplate/cuirass): heavy horizontal iron plates, lacquered to a smooth finish, probably same as the helmet
Kusazuri (fauld/skirt): lacquered leather
Sode (shoulder armour): medium lacquer iron plates, mid Edo period
Kote: simple Shino type, lacquered iron, well-made, simple hemp backing
Haidate (thigh armour): lacquered iron plates, simple hemp backing
Suneate (shin guards): lacquered iron matching Haidate, Shino style, no backing, late Edo period
Gusoku bitsu (armour box): Take Mon (bamboo crest) adopted by the Uesugi clan, overall with box height 60.2 in — 153 cm
