RARE SOUTHERN POTTERY JAR. Scribed signat

RARE SOUTHERN POTTERY JAR. Scribed signature "John Lehman Maker Of This Jar". Green alkaline glaze. Applied decorations on both sides include an eagle and shield with thirteen stars within a laurel wreath on one side. An allegorical winged lady on the opposite side similar to lady Liberty standing on a winged dog with devil's tail surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath. Attributed to Alabama or Georgia circa 1830 - 1860. John Lehman worked for a time in Randolph County, Alabama. Chip on neck with hairline. Expected wear. 21"h.
