Chinese six-panel lacquer screen, early 20th c., one side gilded with pagodas, trees and a rocky mountainous landscape within ornamentally decorated borders, the base of each panel showing various flowers, reversed by flowers and symbols, panels joined by traditional hooks, minor wear/loss with age, remnants of paint splatter, each panel marked with characters, numbered, 72"h, 16" (each panel)**Provenance: From the private collection of a Colonel (ret.) in the United States Army. The Col. acquired a taste for Oriental art while stationed in Post-WWII Japan. He lived with a Japanese family during that assignment and grew to understand the culture. Through the years, his travels to Asia (including a one-year tour of duty in the Republic of Vietnam in the late 1960's) furthered his appreciation for the orient. The Col. and his Mrs. travelled to Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, India, Nepal and other places in the East. Collecting jade and ivory carvings, wood carvings and other art became a life-long hobby. This collection was primarily purchased in the 1970's and has been displayed and enjoyed for years.** Start Price: $300.00
