Description
Roy DeForest (American, 1930 - 2007). "Tranquility Too". Color lithograph. Early 1950s. Signed and editioned in pencil, lower right. Artist proof. Cream wove paper. Very fine impression. Printed to the edge of the sheet. Provenance: Estate of the Minimalist painter/printmaker Sam Tchakalian (1929-2004). DeForest's early prints were issued in very small editions, many not editioned at all, and are very rare. His work sells regularly at Christie's, Bonham's, etc. DeForest's oeuvre evolved through a number of styles, from abstraction to non-objective, from funk to realism. His early paintings were composed of larger, overlapping, amorphous shapes in bright colors. The early prints were not as colorful and were characterized by "Motherwellian" blacks. Image size: 21 9/16 x 26 3/8 in. (548 x 670 mm). Sheet size: 21 9/16 x 26 3/8 in. (548 x 670 mm). [23673] {R100}
