DeForest's early prints were issued in very small editions, many not editioned at all, and are very rare. His work sells regularly at Christie's, Bonham's, etc. DeForest's oeuvre evolved through a number of styles, from abstraction to non-objective, from funk to realism. His early paintings were composed of larger, overlapping, amorphous shapes in bright colors. The early prints were not as colorful and were characterized by "Motherwellian" blacks.
