George Bellows (American, 1992-1925), 1923, signed as part of plate in margin by artist, pencil signed in artist's wife's hand, an approximate edition of 100; 7.25 x 5.75 in.
The New Society was founded in 1919 by a group of avant-garde American artists, which included Bellows, and was in staunch opposition to the National Academy of Design, whom Society members felt were opposed to modernism.
