A rare gold-band mosaic glass alabastron Roman Empire, period of Augustus, 1st century B.C. - 1st century A.D. Cylindrical in form, assembled from fused canes of yellow, white, aubergine, green and blue, spiral twisted around a central rod from the rounded base to the cut-off rim. Very good condition except some small cracks. 14.5 cm high Alabastra, bereits im 7. Jh. v. Farbloser Glaskern mit wellenförmig aufgelegten Bändern aus grünem, blauem und violettem Glas. Schlanker, zylindrischer Körper mit spitz zulaufendem Boden und abgesprengter Mündung. Bis auf kaum sichtbare Sprünge sehr guter Erhaltungszustand. H. 14,5 cm Alabastra, bereits im 7. Jh. v. Chr. in Griechenland als Gefäßform entwickelt, wurden zur Aufbewahrung von Duftstoffen und aromatischen Flüssigkeiten hauptsächlich von Frauen verwendet. Ein nahezu identisches Alabastron befindet sich im Antikenmuseum in Berlin.
