Description
2 early Chinese bronze figures. 1st item: Qianlong parcel gilt and polychrome bronze seated figure, atop an integral base. Figure is supported upright by block of wood inserted in the hollow base. A note taped to the interior identifies the figures as Sun Simiao, the Chinese God of Medicine or Healing, circa 1730s. 8 1/8"H. 2nd item: Ming style Bronze figure of a seated man, possibly a scholar, holding a cup. Figure is supported upright by a block of wood inserted in the hollow base. 9"H. Possibly Qing period. Provenance: the estate of Christine Rehnke, Nashville, Tennessee. Condition
Both pieces oxidized with some surface exfoliation and losses; first figure may have lost something meant to be held in its hand and has several large holes to back.
