North America, USA, ca. mid to late 19th century CE. A painted tin and brass magic lantern, an early form of image projector that uses pictures painted on glass slides (one is included here) to project images. The technology was used in the 19th century mainly for educational purposes. The slide included here has a repeated scene of a rider on horseback. This example comes mounted on a thin modern wooden platform. Size: 3.75" L x 6.9" W x 11.7" H (9.5 cm x 17.5 cm x 29.7 cm)
