**Originally Listed At $1500**
Southeast Asia / Oceania, Indonesia, Sumba, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A fascinating and rare object - a huge megalodon tooth, twelve teeth of varying sizes, a large seed pod, a bone carved into the face of an ungulate, a trio of what appear to be Chinese coins, two bone beads, multiple glass beads, including red and blue, and two bronze bells, all tied together using twine and a dark red ribbon. This bundle of seemingly disconnected, assorted objects was made as part of a traditional healer's battery of tools to confront illness and evil spirits - often seen as one and the same - in his or her community. Each item would have had some symbolic meaning that made it important to be kept as part of this group. Size of largest object, the megalodon tooth: 3.6" W x 4.5" H (9.1 cm x 11.4 cm)
Provenance: private Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA collection
