Description
100% of the Hammer price of all lots sold in this auction will be donated to Community Food Share by Artemis Gallery. $1.00 = 3 meals!
**Originally Listed At $800**
Ancient Near East, Anatolian / Cycladic, ca. late 4th to early 3rd millennium BCE. A superb example of a Cycladic bronze idol in a form known as "violin" for obvious reasons. A rounded body with a slightly raised "arm" on its face, a thin neck, and a rounded head devoid of any facial features but with a large hole punched through it, all suggest an anthropomorphic form with a single, all-seeing eye. The meaning and function of Cycladic idols remains an enigma without any written records from this era. Most are made from marble or terracotta, so a bronze example is a rare find indeed. Size: 2.4" W x 4.35" H (6.1 cm x 11 cm)
Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.
