Description
Two (2) Chinese "Hatcher Cargo" shipwreck porcelain items. 1st item: Chinese "Hatcher Cargo" blue and white bowl, octagonal form with foliate decoration. Originally purchased from Christie's June 1984 Hatcher Collection sale, sticker present. 2 1/4" H x 4 3/8" W. 2nd item: Chinese "Hatcher Cargo" blue and white porcelain bowl, interior with landscape decoration, exterior with landscape circular vignettes interspersed with fretwork carving, the base with a blue six-character Ch'eng Hua mark. Originally purchased from Christie's June 1984 Hatcher Collection sale, sticker present. 2" H x 5 5/8" dia. Both items mid 17th century. Note: The Hatcher Cargo was salvaged in 1983 from the wreck of a 17th century Chinese ship in the South China seas by Captain Michael Hatcher. It is one of the largest groups of Chinese porcelain ever recovered in good condition from the sea. Hatcher and his crew brought up about 25,000 pieces of unbroken porcelain and sold them at Christies, Amsterdam, in a 1984 auction that made international headlines.
