Description
Historic Chattanooga, Tennessee gilt metal thistle and leaf decorated six-light chandelier or gasolier with round etched glass shades, brass or bronze base, five sections and six arms with applied gilt metal chased leaves and thistle flowers and ending in thistle pendant drop. Chandelier converted from oil to electric. Six (6) etched glass globes of white to clear with scenes including three (3) farmsteads, one (1) with storks in grass, one (1) of Roman soldiers on horseback, and one (1) of fishermen. Three (3) smaller etched glass globes also included, one (1) with scene of caribou. Chandelier approximately 34" H x 35 1/4" W. Six (6) globes - 5" H x 7 1/2" dia. overall. Three (3) globes - 4 1/2" H to 5" H x 7 1/2" W. American, late 19th century. Provenance: Formerly hung in the Cravens - Coleman House built in 1870 in Cravens Colony on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, and listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. Condition
Surface grime. Oxidation to gilding at arm joints. Not tested for functionality. One small chip to rim of caribou globe.
