Description
Dwight Clay Holmes (Texas/California, 1900-1986) oil on canvasboard landscape depicting a bridge over a river or tributary, with boats nearby, and hill and trees in the background. Signed and dated "Dwight C. Holmes '54" lower left. Red stained and giltwood frame with beaded rabbet edge. 15 1/2" x 19 3/4" sight, 19" x 23" framed. Mid 20th century. Biography: Dwight Holmes was born in Oregon and moved to Texas at an early age. He studied at Texas Christian University and taught there during the 1920s. He studied in California with George Flowers and at the Pasadena Art Institute. Holmes was a member of the Fort Worth Art Association and American Federation of Arts. Puncture and 1/4" narrow area of paint loss lower right quadrant, by bridge; light overall grime; 1/4" area of loss to beading on frame.
