Three (3) Split Fore-Edge Painted Books, including Henry Southgate, Duke of Beaufort. 1st-2nd items: Many Thoughts of Many Minds, one (1) First Series, Thirty-Sixth Edition, and one (1) Second Series, Tenth Edition, complied and analytically arranged by Henry Southgate, circa 1890. Published by Charles Griffin and Company, London. Octavos, approximately 681 gilt edges pages with four (4) watercolor split double fore-edge paintings, two (2) to each book, titled, First Series: "Covert to Covert" and "A Sure Find", Second Series: "Gone Away" and "Run to Earth", rebound in tooled red pebbled leather with gilt lettering to spine and four raised hubs, marbled end papers. 8 1/4" H x 6 1/8" W x 2 1/8" D. 3rd item: Hunting, Seventh Edition, Revised, edited by His Grace the Duke of Beaufort, K.G., and Mowbray Morris, 1894. Published by Longmans, Green, and Company, London. Octavo, 385 gilt edges pages with two (2) watercolor split double fore-edge paintings depicting English hunting scenes, with lithographed frontispiece, plates, and illustrations, rebound in tooled red pebbled leather with gilt lettering to spine and five raised hubs. Ink inscription dated August 1894, to front end paper. 7 3/4" H x 5 3/4" W x 1 1/2" D. Note: All books in this lot are included on a receipt from Hourglass Antiques, Nashville, TN, dated September 10, 1986, available to the winning bidder. Retail pencil inscriptions, to front end papers. 3rd item: Fore-edge paintings in overall excellent condition. Pages in overall good condition with light toning, foxing spots. Rebound boards in overall good condition. Ink inscription dated August 1894 and retail pencil inscriptions, to front end papers.
