Description
Two (2) scarce Maritime hand colored engravings depicting 18th century ship battles. 1st item: THE ACTION BETWEEN THE MARS AND L'HERCULE ON THE NIGHT OF THE 21ST OF APRIL, 1798, TO THE MEMORY OF THE INTREPID CAPTAIN, ALEX HOOD. Painted by N. Pocock, engraved by T. Hillier, published by L. Brydon, London, 1798. Text below images gives an account of the battle. Sight - 17 1/4" H x 23 5/8" W. Framed - 31" H x 37 3/4" W. 2nd item: THE HMS BRUNSWICK AND THE FRENCH VENGEUR (DE PEUPLE), published by N. Pocock, 1796, depicting the important French Revolution marine battle which took place at sea on June 1, 1794 (also known as The Glorious First of June). Sight - 18 3/8" H x 26 1/4" W. Framed - 31" H x 37 3/4" W. Both matted and framed under glass in identical burnished metallic silver-gilt molded wood frames. Condition
1st item: 3" tear lower left, chipping and 1" tape repair upper left edge, 1" tear right center, creasing upper right corner. Not examined out of frame. 2nd item: 1" tear lower left edge, two 2" patches right side.
