WWII Nazi German Model 98 Mauser Kriegsmodell Bolt-Action Rifle, 8mm, serial number 6701, all visible serial numbers matching. Top of receiver marked "Mod. 98 byf 45", butt plate marked "GQM/44", magazine cover marked "SVW/byf", German acceptance proofs including Nazi eagle on magazine cover, receiver. Wooden stock, round barrel, metal and wood fore arm, hooded front sight. Includes bayonet, pommel marked "Jos Corts S n", "46" "5419b" with leather sheath, stamped "5419" and "Wilhelm Hanger & Braun Solingen 1935". Barrel length - 23 1/2". Overall length - 43 1/2". Overall length of bayonet - 16". Mid 20th century. Provenance: From the living estate of former U.S. Army Sgt. Orville Ellis of St. Louis, MO. Sgt. Ellis was a member of the the 70th Infantry Division, known as the "Trailblazers". This group spearheaded the Seventh U.S. Army's drive into Germany and participated in the Battle of the Bulge, Germany's last major German offensive on the Western Front. Note: Most firearms made after 1898 require passing an FFL background check prior to transfer. Please be prepared with proper identification and information. Bore is clean. Action is functional. Missing screw from breech tang near trigger guard. Missing stacking rod. Fore arm metal and wood not tightly attached. Stock appears to be unmarked with varnish.
