Large barber straight razor display or advertising sign, comprised of wood cover/sheath with mother of pearl overlay and a hinged iron blade with engraved scrolling foliate pattern, all mounted onto a black wooden base. Unsigned. 11" H x 44" L x 7 1/8" D. 42.6 lbs. Probably American, late 19th/early 20th century. Provenance: Estate of Martha Lyman, Dayton, TN. Note: Oral history states that this item came from the collection of Colonel John Parker of the "Old Smokey Knife Works" in Louisville, KY and that it was made for the World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago, IL in 1893. Condition
Losses to mother of pearl overlay, especially to rounded end edge. Oxidation and rust to iron blade.
