Description
Three (3) Obsolete Texas and Tennessee Bank Notes including one (1) Sam Houston secretarial signed. 1st item: Government of Texas $10 note, issued in Houston, TX, April 1, 1838, engraved by Draper, Toppan, Longacre, and Company, Philadelphia, PA, New York, NY. Vignette of a steamboat and a row boat, left, vignette of a goddess, top right. Serial Number 963. Secretarial signature for Sam Houston, President/Henry Smith, Treasurer signature. Housed in a plastic sleeve. Note: Sam Houston (1793-1863) was the Governor of Tennessee from 1827 until 1829, when he resigned and moved to Texas. Houston later became the President of Texas and its Governor. He is the only person in American History to be elected governor of two states by popular vote. 2nd item: Bank of East Tennessee, Knoxville $1 note, issued in Chattanooga, TN, March 1, 1855, printed by Danforth, Wright & Company of New York and Philadelphia. Portrait of President Andrew Jackson, center, vignette of a seated woman holding a distaff and a drop spindle, gazing at two men standing to her right, lower right, obverse. Red "One" text with portrait of a woman, reverse. Serial Number 1687/ pp A. President/Cashier signatures. Housed in a plastic sleeve. 3rd item: Central Bank of Tennessee, Nashville $1 note, issued in Nashville, TN, June 25, 1855, printed by Danforth, Wright & Company of New York and Philadelphia. Vignette of African American slaves unloading a wagon, top center, a "black eagle", lower center, vignette of a horse drawn covered wagon, lower left, and a vignette of two white field workers, lower right. Serial Number 80/ pp A. President/Cashier signatures. Housed in a plastic sleeve. Notes approximately 3" H x 7 3/8" W. All items American, early/mid 19th century.
