Western Africa, Ivory Coast, the Lagoon Regions, Attye (or Akye) peoples, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A lovely standing female figure, hand-carved from hard wood, standing upon delineated legs atop an integral ovoid plinth. She wears a simple loincloth, with both arms held against her abdomen, perhaps indicative of pregnancy, with pendulous breasts presented below sloping shoulders. Her thick neck supports an oblong head, its serene visage comprised of almond-shaped eyes, a petite nose, a thin mouth, cupped ears, and a pair of scarification marks across her cheeks. Painted jet-black and decorated with a beautiful swirled design, this is a fantastic example from the Ivory Coast! Custom wooden display stand included. Size: 12.75" H (32.4 cm); 13.5" H (34.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Age-commensurate surface wear, with small nicks to arms, legs, and base. Hairline pressure fissures to head, back, and base, and some chips and fading to pigmentation, otherwise intact and excellent. Light earthen deposits as well as nice patina throughout.
