Description
Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful jasper intaglio depicting a youthful man, perhaps the god Apollo, with flowing hair, a handsome face, and a nude, muscular chest. This is set into a modern 18 karat gold brooch of teardrop shape, with round, disc-shaped diamonds inlaid around the edges of the brooch. Size: 0.9" W x 1.6" H (2.3 cm x 4.1 cm); weight: 12.8 grams
Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-Frances Artuner collection, Belgium, collected in the 1960s

Light scratching on intaglio surface. Intaglio is antique and gold setting is modern and stamped on back with "329" and an unreadable signature.
