Oceania, Australia, Aboriginal peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A gorgeous, hand-carved wooden boomerang meant for hunting rather than for display. The body is gently curved and ready to be thrown, with the handle portion being longer than the other end. The obverse side is slightly curved, with both ends smooth and rounded, and the textured verso gives it a fine gripping surface. Aboriginals made tools and airfoil weaponry from a variety of different woods known for their high density, heavy weight, and sturdy construction. This example displays lovely remains of natural red ochre pigment, giving it a personalized presentation characteristic of Aboriginal artistry! Size: 2.5" W x 29.625" H (6.4 cm x 75.2 cm).

Age-commensurate surface wear and abrasions, small losses to handle end and obverse face, fading to pigmentation, a couple of stable hairline fissures, and minor inactive insect damage. Light earthen deposits and nice red ochre remains throughout.
