Three (3) maps by European mapmakers, including Helwig, Ortelius, Munster, and Vaugondy. 1st item: Silesiae Typus A Martino Helwigio Sissense descriptus map by Martin Helwig (German, 1516-1574) and Abraham Ortelius (The Netherlands, 1527-1598) from Theatre de l'Univers, Antwerp, 1598. Copper plate engraving with hand coloring of Silesia, a historical region of Central Europe located mostly in Poland, with cities and towns, rivers, mountains and other points of interest identified with French text. Decorative title cartouche, lower left of map, scale of miles, lower right of map. Map surrounded by scale, directional notations, and line border. Housed under glass in a wooden frame with gilt wood rabbet edge. Sight - 16 1/4" H x 19 1/2" W. Framed - 19 1/8" H x 22 1/4" W. 2nd item: Die Stadt Landau birdseye view map by Sebastian Munster (German, 1488-1552) from the French version of Cosmographia, Book III, originally published 1552-1575. Woodcut engraved map of the city of Landau, Germany depicting the skyline of the city and surrounding farmland and mountains, title surrounded by two coat of arms, centered in the mountains and sky. Additional title and page numbers, centered above map, two columns of French text, below map. Text page with with additional wood cut engravings and title page, en verso. 13" H x 16 1/2" W. 3rd item: Post French and Indian War Partie de l'Amerique Septentrionale, qui comprend le Cours de l'Ohio, la Nlle. Angleterre, la Nlle York, Le New Jersey, La Pensylvanie, Le Maryland, La Virginie, La Carolina map drawn and published by Gilles Robert de Vaugondy (France, 1686-1766) and Didier Robert de Vaugondy (France, ca. 1723-1786), Paris, 1768. From Atlas Universel, originally published in 1757. Based on A Map of the British and French Dominions in North America by John Mitchell (American, 1711-1768), London, 1755. Copper plate engraving with hand coloring of the English Colonies in America, including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and extending south to South Carolina. The map shows cities and towns, including Boston, roads, county lines, territory lines including the dotted border of Treaty of Paris, 1763, rivers and other bodies of water, mountains including Transappalachian information, forts, and other points of interest including the locations of Native American tribes with French text. Inset map of Carolina extending from Wilmington/Cape Fear to Amelia Island and Jacksonville (unnamed), top left of map. Title in decorative cartouche engraved by Charles de Groux or Charles Degroux (France, 1825-1870), lower right of map, scale of miles, lower left of map. Condition
1st item: Overall good condition with few foxing spots, toning, areas of dampstaining, ink inscription from previous owner, and scuffs. Not examined outside of frame. 2nd item: Overall good condition with few foxing spots, toning, areas of dampstaining, and pencil inscriptions from previous owner. 3rd item: Overall good condition with old past stains, foxing spots, areas of white archival tape hinge mounting.
