Two (2) Revolutionary War newspapers. 1st item: The Independent Chronicle and The Universal Advertiser, Thursday, May 13, 1779, Vol. XI, No. 559, printed by Nathaniel Willis, Boston. Two page double sided double sided newspaper with engraved masthead including descriptions of British and American troop movements by land and sea in and around the areas of Williamsburg, Fishkill, and Philadelphia, excerpts of letter from other publications including letters to and from General Sir Henry Clinton (1730-1795) from Rivington's Gazette, April 4, 1779, with other military and political related news and advertisements. 15 3/4" H x 9 7/8" W. 2nd item: The Pennsylvania Journal and Weekly Advertiser, Wednesday, January 9, 1782, No. 1455. The three page, double sided newspaper with engraved masthead including descriptions of British and American troop movements by land and sea in and around the areas of Providence, Fishkill, Trenton, New York, Charlestown, Baltimore, and Philadelphia, a glowing mention of Thomas Jefferson by John Beckley of the General Assembly, December 15, 1781, and several advertisements including slaves, one for an African American man "Taken up as a Run Away" by the name of Henry Haywood and one "To Be Sold, A Healthy Negro Wench, about 16 years of age". 15 3/4" H x 9 7/8" W. Overall good condition with toning, foxing spots, areas of dampstaining, tears, etc. to be expected from age.
