Archive of sixty-four (64) envelopes and letters, including fifty-five (55) stamp less covers, many related to the New Haven and Hartford Railroad, New Haven and Hartford, CT. 1st-52nd item: Fifty-two (52) stamp less covers, most addressed to New Haven and Hartford/Hartford and New Haven Railroad, New Haven and Hartford, CT, staff members including seventeen (17) Mr. John T. Clark, Superintendent/Agent, New Haven, CT, ten (10) S. J. Hitchcock, President, New Haven, CT, nine (9) O. Pease, Esq., President, New Haven, CT, two (2) Charles F. Pond, Esq., President, Hartford, CT, two (2) James Brewster, Esq., President, New Haven, CT, one (1) Daniel Buck. Esq., President, Hartford, CT, two (2) E. A. Mitchell, Esq., Secretary, New Haven, CT, one (1) H. Fitch, Secretary, Hartford, CT, one (1) A. C. Circa 1838-1842. 53rd-56th items: Four (4) letters with stamps, including two (2) with 5 cent U.S. Postal Airmail stamps, two (2) with 5 cent U.S. Postage, addressed to Mr. J. W. Waite, Palmetto and Reddick, FL. Approximately 3 3/4" H x 6 3/8" W. Circa 1930-1932. 57th-59th items: Three (3) letters with stamps, including one (1) with Soldier's Mail 791 ink stamp, one (1) with 3 cent purple George Washington stamp, and one (1) with 2 cent red George Washington stamp and one cent green George Washington stamp, addressed to Mr. Lewis C. Waldman, Winchester, TN. Approximately 3 5/8" H x 5 1/2" W. 60th item: One (1) stamp less cover addressed to S. B. Shotwell, Esq., Cadiz, Harrison Co. Ohio. 3 1/8" H x 5 7/8" W. Circa 1850. 61st item: One (1) letter with 8 cent U.S. Postage stamp, addressed to Mrs. Ethil Brown, Palmetto, FL. 3 1/2" H x 5 1/2" W. 62nd item: One (1) letter from W. Stanley to his brother in Denbighshire, Wales, dated September 1, 1870. Does not include envelope. 7 1/4" H x 4 1/2" W. 63rd-64th items: Two (2) envelopes engraved with U.S. Monuments in Washington, D.C., including one (1) depicting the Capitol building and one (1) depicting the U.S. Treasury. Approximately 3 1/8" H x 5 5/8" W. Early 19th/early 20th century. Provenance: The collection of Ross Webb, Brentwood, TN.
Condition
Overall good condition with foxing spots, toning impressions, dampstaining, tears, etc. to be expected from age. Letters not examined for content.
