Description
Two (2) Relic Early/Mid 19th Century Firearms, possible Battlefield Pickup from North Carolina Piedmont Region (Guilford?). 1st item: Percussion Model 1817 Common Rifle, .54 caliber. Barrel marked "US P LS" at breech. Walnut stocks, round barrel, butt plate, oval patch box, front and rear sights. Barrel length - 35 3/4". Overall length - 50". 2nd item: Percussion Side By Side Double Barrel Muzzle Loading Shotgun, 12 gauge. Walnut stocks, round barrels, left lock plate, exposed left hammer, rib, and trigger guard with foliate engravings, inlaid gold wire to top of rib, double set triggers, wooden ram rod. Barrel length - 30 3/4". Overall length - 47".
Condition
1st item: Relic condition. Lock plate and hammer are not present. Barrel attached to stock by barrel band. Butt plate heavily pitted. Wrist repaired with metal scrap nailed into wood. 2nd item: Shotgun is in relic, non functional condition. Right lock plate and hammer are not present. Cracks, largest 4 3/4", extending from lock plate areas. Cut to barrel.
