Item Details

Description

Burlwood veneer and mahogany letter box, slant front with hinged doors opening to reveal a fitted interior with graduated shaped dividers. Pull-out changeable day, date and month insert to the top, above a lower drawer. 14 1/4" H x 16 1/4" W x 11 1/4" D. English, mid 19th century. Provenance: the estate of Kent Cathcart, Nashville, Tennessee.

Condition

Slanted doors are not flush causing hinged top not to fully close. Inlaid escutcheon missing. One interior divider missing, two are loose. Losses to burlwood veneers to lower edge of hinged doors. Some scattered minor shrinkage cracks to case.
